Megan Anna Rapinoe is a Californian born July 5, 1985. She started playing soccer as just a small child and her talents improved in her teenage years. Megan Rapinoe played for her school's women's squad and became one of the top scorers among collegiate female soccer players across the United States. Rapinoe started playing in the Australian W-League with Sydney Football Club FC before moving back in the United States. The next team she joined was Seattle Washington Sounders Women. Then came the Sound FC. The 2013 season of Rapinoe was training in France. Later, she joined the National Women's Soccer League NWSL (formerly the WPS) that was formed as a response to the WPS's dissolution. Rapinoe was one of their top scorers, and she ultimately became captain. In Rio the U.S. lost in the quarterfinals. Rapinoe's participation of this year's FIFA Women's World Cup began in 2011. In the years 2015 and 2019 her contributions have helped players from the U.S. Women's World Cup winning team to win consecutive World Cups. In 2018, she was named cocaptain for the U.S. national team. Rapinoe scored two goals when the United States beat Australia 4-3 in the bronze-medal game at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Japan had been prevented from attending their participation in the Olympics until 2021 because of COVID-19, a pandemic.
